A great exercise that I want to expand on is a way that I believe will help bring more clarity to your life. I’ve shared this before so bare with me… You start by writing down the 3 things you want people to say about you at your funeral, for me this was A Good Dad, The Passionate Driven Life , and a Wealth Builder: Someone Who Helped Others become financially free.
Once you have written these down, you will know what you are most passionate about. This is just my opinion, but this is what I believe you should be doing… These 3 thing are how you should be spending most of your time if not all of it. To add to this exercise, take all 3 ideas and write down next to them the ways you are going to achieve being the kind of person who is remembered for those traits.
Here are My Notes
A Good Dad
- Spend time with my children
- Home School
- Teach them to be financially free
Lived a Full Life
- Have a great marriage
- Travel the world with my wife and children
- Retire young
- Save 50% of all income
- Own legacy assets that I can pass down to my grandchildren
- Help others get out of the rat race of 9-5 work days
Think about your 3 favorite things you love doing the most in your life, now quickly write them down.
- Play with children
- Vacation with family
- Relax in the evening with my wife
- Talk about money
The above is what you need to plan out, make time for, and make a top priority. I know my last one is kind of weird, so please don’t get the wrong idea; I don’t love money, I just love learning about wealth and teaching others what I know. By reflecting on what you want to be remembered for and the things you enjoy doing the most, you should have a clear idea on how you want to spend your 28,000 days.
Use this exercise as a way to set boundaries and to live the life you want. If you are far from having the life you want, take your notes and tape them on your bathroom mirror so you can read them every day. This is how I believe you will live a life of passion and purpose.
Lastly, be honest with yourself, don’t include things that you think others will want to hear, be brutally honest with yourself and live vigorously.
