Greetings! From the great state of Texas.
Right now, life is good. My children are all healthy and happy.
My son is turning into dads little partner, having great conversations daily with me about life and business. The other day while playing someone asked him if his military truck was doing food drops, he thought about it and then said, “hey dad, my truck could sell food.” My little entrepreneur, always thinking about how he can help provide sustainable solutions with a profit, I would bet that he’ll have the entire lawn care maintenance jobs cornered in my area by the time he is 10.
At the age of 4, he is already asking me to help him contact some neighbors to cut their grass, I’m not encouraging it too much because its my feet that will be on the other side of the pedal and I don’t exactly want to turn myself into a day laborer in the Texas heat. However, I have given him my lawn care account and I am sure we will get at least a few others in the next year for him.
Having children in my opinion is the ultimate experience in life. I also have two daughters, one 3 and another 6 months old, both are also doing quite well. My older daughter regularly beats me in monopoly, no joke, she takes advantage of going first, and dominates the board before I have a chance to get around. Of course she does roll her dice by placing it exactly where she wants her piece to land.
The 6 month old is teething, a total sweet heart, but in a lot of pain right now.
My father also just moved into our guest house, officially retired and now part of the family in Texas. He will be quite the help here since we plan to homeschool the kids, having an extra adult in the family will help us give each child their special time. Home schooling our children is a real privilege, I consider it the highest form of education, since no teacher will ever beat the passion and drive of a parent. As someone who hates conventional wisdom, I also have a high interest in helping my children develop the courage to choose their own destiny.
Our move to Texas is now in its fourth month and it has become one of the best decisions of our lives. I would recommend to all young people living in high costs states to get the hell out of there, looking back at the standard of living in California, it was truly stupid of us to stay in there for so long. The quality of people here in Texas is value we never accounted for when looking to move, but now that we are here, both my wife and I could never go back to California. We didn’t know people could be so friendly, the sense of community here is present everywhere, and with the state booming economically, there is a good vibe in the air for business owners like us.
Between the move, California visitors, and my father moving in, we pretty much canceled our vacations for the rest of 2014, but 2015 will be a big year as we plan to get back to traveling part time. Our goal is to take our children to see all the continents by the time my oldest is 15 years of age.
My wife needs some rest, and in our family no one is more important than mom, she is what keeps our household running, so allowing her some time to settle in at our new home will make for a happy wife & mom. We just celebrated our 8 year wedding anniversary, though we first started dating over 16 years ago. Our marriage today is better than ever, I truly advise all husbands to focus on loving their wives, putting aside many of their own needs and pouring out your heart and should into your family, because the joy of it all comes back 10 fold.
Final note: Ask yourself today, if today were the last day of your life, would you be happy doing what you are doing today? Now think back to the last 3 days, 1 week, and 30 days, what would your answer be? If the answer is consistently no, then stop doing what you are doing and make a change, because you only get one shot at this life, so make it count.
