I don’t know about you, but if allowed complete freedom, my mind can easily begin to worry and over think unlikely problems. These types of thoughts can ultimately lead to stress, which you want to eliminate from your life as much as you can. If you are alive and well, which most of us are, there really is nothing to be stressed about.
Financial stress is at the top of most people’s list, so let’s take a moment to put this into perspective. If you are reading this right now and make over $34,000 a year, you are in the richest 1% of the entire world! I bet you didn’t know that you are in the one percent. In today’s world, we all have so much to be grateful for. I mean you are reading this on the Internet… think about the richest king 100, 200, or a thousand years ago. Their living standard is shit compared to ours today. We have clean water coming out of our faucets. Heck, we even use the restroom in water clean enough for drinking, though I wouldn’t recommend it.
To start off your day, before even getting out of bed, I suggest you think of 3 things you are thankful for. It can be anything: your kids, nature, health, doesn’t matter. Just start each day by thinking of things you are thankful for. When your mind is appreciative, it’s hard to be worried or stressed. Once you’ve taken the time to be thankful, then follow up with just living in the present, taking it all in. For example, this morning I woke up with back pain since a total of 5 people were sleeping in my bed. One by one, each of our children made their way in to bed with my wife and I from 3AM to 5:30AM. This made for a rough night sleep, however, it felt great to just take in the fact that I was in a room with my wife and my 3 children. My 5-year-old son was under one arm, and my 3-year-old daughter was on the other. I could hear our baby girl grunting and breathing as she was waking up. One day, when my kids are out of the house and raising their own families, I will be glad that I will have seared in memories of these moments where we are all together in perfect harmony.
Back to my daily routine recommendations, be thankful, appreciate the moment you are in right now, and lastly, envision your day. Take 1 to 5 minutes and envision how the day will go, what needs to be done, where it will happen, and all that you will accomplish. By outlining your day, your day, in my opinion, will go smoother. There will be no surprises and no forgetfulness, just achievement.
Prime your mind for healthy thoughts and feelings, and eventually this will become a habit of your brain throughout the entire day. You will be thankful, because there is so much to be grateful for. You will live each moment to the fullest, and you will have great days, never feeling overwhelmed, since you’ve already accomplished your day in your mind before it has even begun.
